Legendary actress Suchitra sen dies: Solitude is not hers even in death
This morning Indian film industry lost one of its gems when the legendary Bengali actress Suchitra Sen passed away in Kolkata hospital due to cardiac arrest. Sen, who was 82 years of age was admitted to the hospital due to the lung tract infection.

She breathed her last this morning. She was one of the cult actresses of all times and she ruled the Hindi and Bengali film industry for over a decade, before going into solitude.

Suchitra Sen, who was called the original 'Paro' of Hindi film industry is the finest actress in Bengali cinema till date. Forced to do films by her husband, she gave power packed performances in films with Uttam Kumar.

People used to love her paired opposite him and some of her famous movies in bengali are 'Deep Jwele Jaai', 'Uttar Falguni', 'Saat Paake Bandha,' and Soptoprodip.' Hindi film Industry still remembers her as Paro in 'Devdas', Maya in 'Bombai Ka Babu', Devyani in 'Mamta' and Aarti Devi in 'Aandhi'.

After retirement, Suchitra Sen became a recluse and was rarely seem in any function, public gathering or award function. She not only refused the Padma Shree but also said no to two iconic directors of her time- Satyajit Ray and Raj Kapoor. She was the first Indian to win the best actress award at the Moscow film festival for 'Saat paakey Badha'. She was compared to the Hollywood actress Greta Garbo.

With her death, we have come to the end of an era. Her daughter, Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters Raima and Riya Sen are trying to pay respect to Sen's wishes of not making her death a public affair. In keeping with the same feeling, even the attending doctors have not divulged the details of her passing away.

However, as soon as words leaked out on the social media, people could not resist tweeting about it. From common man to politicians and actors, everyone wished her peace- so much so that Suchitra Sen is trending on Twitter (Something, she would have not wanted at all)

Prosenjit Chatterjee, who is ruling Bengali film Industry for quite some time now tweeted, “Mohanayoker por amader chere chole gelen Mohanayika.......” Vickey Donor and Madras Cafe's director, Shoojit Sircar also paid his respect and wrote, “ RIP Suchitra Sen...real inspiration to detach yourself from the Stardom & Film world ...spiritual power ...” In a curious turn of events, Narendra Modi also showed his respect for Sen and tweeted, “ RIP Suchitra Sen.

In her, we have lost a fine actress who leaves behind a monumental contribution to both Hindi & Bengali cinema.” Following in Modi footsteps, Shushma Swaraj also went online to say, “ My respectful homage to Suchitra Sen - a woman of dignity and actress par excellence.”

Suchitra Sen whose life was full of irony also died with irony- trending in Twitter while all she ever wanted was to remain anonymous.
