Legislators boycott Governor's address, stage walkout
Opposition parties including Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) and Bhartia Janta Party (BJP) staged a walkout to boycott the Governor's joint address.
ACRIMONIOUS  SCENES marked the Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Agency when on the first day of its 2010 session, the Jammu based opposition parties including Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a walkout to boycott the Governor's joint address and Kashmir based largest opposition Party- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Legislators criticized the government for alleged Human rights violations and failure of government at every front.

As soon as the Governer started his joint address at about 10:30 a.m, BJP, JKNPP and an independent legislator from Bishnah, Ashwani Kumar Sharma stood up and started shouting slogans against the recently announced return and rehabilitation policy of government, failure of government to prove itself up to the expectations of the people.

 
The JKNPP Legislators led by its firebrand leader Harsh Dev Singh shouted slogans criticizing the Government for its recent decision regarding amnesty to militants and its failure to provide transparent governance to the masses of the state.

 
The legislators were shouting slogans like militant supporter sarkar ko barkhast karo, barkhast karo, Ghisi Piti Sarkar ko Barkhast karo ( Dissolve the coalition which is supporting the militants and has failed to prove up to the expectations of the people)

 
The JKNPP legislators left the house shouting these slogans to register their protest by boycotting the Governor’s address.

 
The Bharatiya Janata Party members continued their protest inside during the Governor’s address. The legislators of BJP shouted slogans criticizing the government for its continued discriminatory attitude with Jammu. They shouted slogans like anti Jammu anti people sarkar ko barkhast karo( dissolve the anti Jammu, anti people government) they also decried the government for its soft attitude against the militants. Later on they also staged a walk out to boycott the Governor’s address.

After the walk-out of Jammu based opposition parties, the legislators of the largest opposition party of Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party led by Mehbooba Mufti stood up and vehemently criticized the government over alleged human rights violations.

 
The members shouted slogans like ‘Kashmir mein Katal e Aam ko bandh karo, Kashmir ke khoon ka jawab dho, chotay bacho ka katale aam badh karo( stop the killings in Kashmir, who is accountable for the spilt blood in Kashmir and stop killing of teenagers in Kashmir). They kept on shouting slogans for about ten minutes and later on sat in their respective seats to listen to the address of the Governor.

 
Later on, after the completion of Governor’s joint address, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in an impromptu chat with media persons said that the incumbent coalition government has adapted the bullet to stone policy against the youth of the valley which would by no way be tolerated.

“Bullet to bullet policy was to some extent acceptable but bullet to stone policy adopted by present coalition is the violation of human rights,” she said.

 
She further said that the present government failed at every front which includes providing of basic facilities to the people of state and carrying forward of peace process initiated during the PDP- Congress coalition. Government has failed to provide basic amenities to the people of Jammu and Kashmir which reflects its careless attitude, she said.

 
She said that recommendation for Mama Kanna for the Padma award speaks volumes about the intentions of the present government, adding that the Human Rights violations were going on in the valley with impunity.
