Lessons from Gujarat on safe driving
An appealing point here is that the trees are planted far off from the main road, hence bigger vehicles willingly move to their left, unlike other cities, where trees with huge branches align the road causing damage to bigger vehicles.
DURING A recent visit to Gujarat, I found a sea change in the road transport in the state, as compared to road transport and traffic conditions elsewhere in India. There are three basic factors which have created such good traffic conditions in the state.

Superior Highways: The highways are done up splendidly, without any road bump and as far as possible, not passing through any village or township. The roads are almost straight stretches. Yet, the drivers seem to have made a tacit pact that they wont exceed a maximum speed of 80 km, in the interest of their own safety, the passenger's safety and the safety of other vehicles plying on the road.

No overtaking: The second most appealing point was the people here never overtake from the left. They honk and wait for the other person to give way, which is never seen on any other roads. They have particularly maintained their concept of patience.

No obstructions like trees on the roads: The third most important thing is that the trees are planted far off from the main road, hence bigger vehicles willingly move to their left, unlike our cities, wherein we have trees having huge branches falling over the main road, causing damage to bigger vehicles like Trucks, Tempos and Buses, if they go too much on the left.

To ensure such good roads and traffic conditions, one needs to simply ensure that they have simple self discipline.
