The blind may not have been blessed with the sense of sight but they have a highly developed sense of touch, which is often ignored. They are very conscious about their 'defect' but they fight the unfair world with a smile on their face
"Put faith in what you must believe in, Two worlds one family, Trust your heart, Let fate decide, To guide these lives we see."
-Phil Collins
THESE ARE the lines of a song written by Phil Collins, which later went on to become the title song for Disney classic, Tarzan. Here the two worlds mentioned are those of Jane and Tarzan. Walt Disney has clearly depicted the selfishness of human beings and how they tend to ignore anything, which does not benefit them. While watching this movie (Tarzan), a thought flitted across my mind. How can we expect humans to treat animals and people of other caste, race or religion equally when they don't treat people of their own caste, race or religion equally! Strange, isn't it? But it’s true. Today's society consists of selfish people like you and me who hardly care about the disabled, especially the deaf, dumb and blind. You must have seen the latest blockbuster, Slumdog Millionaire. The scene where the young children run away from the police and dash against the car of a politician, who turns a blind eye to them, is a telling commentary on the insensitivity of our politicians. They hardly care for the underprivileged and the disabled, who are so much discriminated against that they form a different world altogether.
Take the case of a blind child. He/she has to go to a "special school". Often, these children are more talented than many ‘normal’ people but we know who is given preference. Look around in your workplace and see how many blind/dumb/deaf people are there. Let me guess: None! The blind may not have been blessed with the sense of sight but they have a highly developed sense of touch, which is often ignored. They are very conscious about their 'defect' but they fight the unfair world with a smile on their face. In the end, I would like to make a plea to everyone: Please donate your organs and help make this world, one large family.
I agree with you. One way improve the situation is to start with primary school teachers. Go to schools and appeal to them to sensitize children towards less advantaged. Some NGO connected with the disabled welfare may initiate a series of thirty minute lectures in schools.
