I feel the progress of women has not been taken in the right context by the Indian men. In a society where we worship Maa Durga, Maa Santoshi, Maa Laxmi and Maa Saraswati as deities; how dare we traumatise a woman?
THE ARUSHI Murder Case (unsolved), Girl Abducted from Sec-58 (no leads), Girl Gang- raped in Noida (investigations on); these are certain incidents of brutality against women in the recent past.
The recent gang-rape incident in Noida might be a passing phase for many or maybe just a piece of news which was highlighted, propagated and then forgotten by the media. I, as a young Indian citizen feel restless on the plight of women and the way some psycho-mentally retarded and sick men subject women to humiliation. I put forward a question to the so called chauvinists of our society: “Are we so frustrated and sex deprived that we need to rape a women to prove our masculinity and play with a woman’s life? In a society where we worship Maa Durga, Maa Santoshi, Maa Laxmi and Maa Saraswati as deities; how dare we traumatise a woman?”
We are living in the 21st century where we believe that every individual, inspite of their caste, creed and gender has a right to contribute to the nation’s development? Today, women have started competing shoulder to shoulder with men or rather have gone ahead of them too, at times. We have eminent women like Indira Nooyi, Chanda Kochar, and Kiran Majumdar, who have proved their mettle in their respective fields and shown the world that they are no less than any man. I feel the progress of women has not been taken in the right context by the Indian men and their success is not digestible for them which give birth to a psyche to humiliate women in some way or the other. We need to understand that by insulting women we are only humiliating our mothers and sisters. How would you feel if someone rapes your sister or passes a lewd comment? I think you will feel bad…………..am I right? Yes I am.
Where is the solution to all this? Let us introspect and resolve that from now on we will not go against the integrity and respect of women. We are the youth and have to shoulder the responsibilities of making our country a safe place to live for women. Let’s become like Krishna who guarded the respect of Draupadi from the Kaurvas.
I am just reminded of the dialouge from ‘Rang De Basanti’: “Hum badlenge is desh ko, kyunki yeh hamara desh hai”. So come let us all join hands and fight against the brutality towards women, because after all this is what masculinity, chauvinism and chivalry all about.
