Let's uphold human rights for a more just world
On the occasion of the Human Rights Day, 10 December, celebrated across the world, UN Chief, Antonio Guterres, in his message stated, "Today we also honour the human rights defenders risking their lives to protect people in the face of rising hatred, racism, intolerance and repression."

Expressing his dismay, he added that human rights were indeed under siege around the world and universal values were being eroded while the rule of law was being undermined, he further stated, "Now more than ever, our shared duty is clear. Let us stand up for human rights - for everyone, everywhere."

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet in her message stated that wherever respect for its commitments had been present, the dignity of millions had been uplifted, suffering prevented and the foundations laid for a more just world.

She urged for the need to keep pushing forward and added, "People are increasingly fearful of the great changes our world is experiencing. And, it is precisely at times of turmoil and uncertainty that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights can guide us. Step by step, it lights the path."

She called for need more respect, greater justice and upholding human equality with dignity. "And, we can achieve this. All of us, wherever we are, can make a difference, by standing up for everyone's human rights," she urged.
