Liberty Reclaimed: A book review
Lewis and Peron (no relation to Juan Peron, leader of Argentina) wrote a book titled Liberty Reclaimed in 1984. This little-known book deals with loss of liberty in America and how to reclaim it. Author also applies few personal reflections in it.

THERE ARE people who would want to regulate our lives to the point that we couldn’t breathe. The United States Elite called the Republicans and Democrats are like their pupils – the Castro Brothers of Cuba, Chavez of Venezuela, Ortega of Nicaragua, FARC, Morales of Bolivia, and other totalitarian leaders in that they consider the people to be stupid. This is the truth whether we like to hear it or not. Recently, I have been reading a book titled: ‘Liberty Reclaimed’ whose authors are the dynamic duo – Lewis and Peron (no relation to the Argentinean Leader, Juan Peron).

In Liberty Reclaimed, Lewis and Peron talked about the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the American Revolution. Liberty Reclaimed also discussed, in detail, about the discussion between those who wanted lesser government and those who wanted a big state. People like Alexander Hamilton (the ‘person’ who graces the ten dollar bill) once said that people were stupid and they could not be trusted to do what was best for them.

The struggle between those who wanted big government and small government ended with the Civil War. During the Civil War of 1861 to 1865, Abraham Lincoln suppressed personal liberty, arrested people under trumped up charges of treason, instituted the income tax, and increased the power of the state.

During World War I, Woodrow Wilson did the same thing and erased any references to the American Revolution from the history books since the USA was fighting on the side of Great Britain. Wilson used the suppression of the American Revolution as a pretext for ‘protecting the people’.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt provoked Japan into bombing Pearl Harbour and start World War II. In the process, Japanese Americans including those born in America were sent to concentration camps for ‘the protection of themselves and the people of the USA’. We are forced to have social security, medicare, and medicaid since we are incapable of taking care of ourselves.

The government elitists think that the people are dumb and expose us to programmes in the television such as ‘American Idol’, and news programmes that border on the insane. On the other hand, our elite, McCain, is caught with a lobbyist; Spitzer is caught with a prostitution ring; and the people are turned off. There is a party that believes in America and is truly American called the Libertarian Party and there is a true American called George Phillies who believes that the greatest strength of America lies in releasing the creative energy of the people of the United States of America. I challenge the people of the USA to vote against all the government elitists and vote for the Libertarian Party.

I thank you for the kind words regarding the book and hope to have a revised version of the book in future. For the record I do not support George Phillies due to his stand on immigration. I can not speak how Jim Lewis would feel if he were alive today but his views and mine on the matter were not substantially different.

For Jim Peron, for me it is an honour to read your comments. Your book is one of the greatest American Books ever written and I hope to buy a revised version of it. You are also one of the greatest American Authors who was able to write what is the truth. Whether you support George Phillies or I support him takes a back seat to what is more important, reclaiming our liberty and our country. Best Wishes. Roberto
