Problems for the transitional council have been compounded after Gadhafi loyalists took control over a city in a well-organised military operation. It has also highlighted hollow claims of western countries that anti Gadhafi forces were powerful enough to rule the country.
THE CIVIL war in Libya is not over yet. The news trickling from Libya informs that the Gadhafi loyalists have seized control of Bani Waled city in the mountains. The new development has highlighted that Libya's western-backed government is to face yet another civil war to eliminate people Gadhafi loyalists.
The ruling National Transitional Council of Libya has suffered a major setback with the Gadhafi loyalists taking over Bani Walid with a well organized military operation. To add to the woes of the present government, the administration has also faced violent protests in Benghazi city. The Gadhafi's loyalists are reported to have battled for eight hours with the army to take over Bani Walid's council building and hoist their green flag. It is said that the fighters with latest weapons raided the city to take it under their control.
It seems that the National Transitional Council has not been able to unify its armed forces and is mainly relying on revolutionary brigades made up of citizens who fought the battle against Gadhafi's forces. At the same time, it has highlighted the hollow claims of western governments that the anti-Gadhafi forces were powerful enough to rule the country. Had these foreign governments not backed the military strikes against the Gadhafi’s government, one feels Gadhafi would have been at the helm even now.
