Life imitates art in Kaun Banega Crorepati
It was almost as if he was playing the character of Dev Patel in Slumdog Millionaire. After the film, as global media went into a frenzy, the same happened after Shushil Kumar won the coveted Rs 5 crore to become a millionaire.

LAST WEEK it was announced by the makers of the show that the highest award of Kaun Banega Corepati (KBC) was won by an Indian clerk from the state of Bihar. Yesterday was the day when the episode showcasing the win of 5 crore rupees was screened on Sony Television. After that a number of international media took up the story and drew a comparison of the win to that of the Academy Award winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

There are a number of similarities between the character played by Dev in the movie and Sushil Kumar, who won the money in reality. As the character of the film comes up to the game show from a humble background so does Shushil Kumar. He works as a data entry person who earns some 6500/- each month and also teaches in tuition classes. Like the character in the film, both of them managed to win the final lottery and become millionaire. Except for the little drama that was present in the film, Shushil Humar was almost living the life of Dev Patel from the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

The final question that would make Shushil Kumar a known name was “Which colonial power ended its involvement in India by selling the rights to the Nicobar Islands to the British on Oct. 16, 1868?” Everyone waited with bated breath as he said Denmark. His wife was seen praying and there was pin drop silence until Amitabh Bachchan said that he has answered it correctly to create history on the sets of KBC. The live crowd bursted with applause and everyone was congratulating the man, while tears of joy could be seen in the eyes of the family members. Sometimes life does imitate art.
