Gone are the days when dignitaries used to enter politics with a solitary aim to serve people. Now legislative posts are being misused for status symbol and self service not only during tenure but even for benefiting self after retirement.
IT REFERS to yet another case of political unanimity of self-convenience when Bihar state assembly unanimously passed a bill providing lifetime security cover and government accommodation to all those having been enjoyed post of state Chief Minister. Interestingly arch-rivals, present and former Bihar Chief Ministers Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav, shared views on unanimity for mutual convenience of each other before passing the anti-public Bill in state assembly. Media reports indicate construction of a palatial bungalow at huge government cost by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for her post retirement living.
Those who are so much scared of their lives should never accept such high posts. Gone are the days when dignitaries used to enter politics with a solitary aim to serve people. Now legislative posts are being misused for status symbol and self service not only during tenure but even for benefiting self after retirement. There should be a central rule whereby post retirement government facilities should be abolished for all including even of former presidents, vice presidents and prime ministers and also for those having held similar posts in states. When such post retirement facilities are not available to persons from other two wings of democracy namely executive and judiciary, it is unjustified to provide the same to those in legislature.
