The creator of instinctive yet powerful mobile products Palm Inc is hoping to keep momentum going with the release of a lighter, cheaper handset called Pixi. The handset will be available in the coming holiday season through Sprint Nextel Corp.
PALM INC is going to release a lighter and cheaper smart handset called the Pixi to be available during the coming holiday season through Sprint Nextel Corporation.
According to Katie Mitic, Palm's senior vice president of product marketing, the combination of announcing a new device and changing the price on the Pre show was their strategy to aggressively pursue new customers to get them accessing the WebOS experience.
The company holds that Pixi's release would mark Palm's second attempt in less than a year to use new software and streamlined designs to lure consumers in the still small but fast-growing smart phone market, which is dominated byiPhone and BlackBerry devices.
Palm's new smart phone is longer and slimmer than the Pre and is nearly 3.5 ounces lighter. The phone is build with a two-megapixel camera and two small speakers rather than the Pre's single large one.
