Linkin Park's Chester Bennington commits suicide by hanging
American rock band 'Linkin Park' lead singer Chester Bennington is no more. Bennington was found dead in his home in Palos Verdes near Los Angeles shortly before 9 am on Thursday.

A Los Angeles County coroner confirmed they were investigating Bennington's death as an apparent suicide but no additional details were available.

Law enforcement officials say Bennington hanged himself in his bedroom and he was home alone at the time, according to American news website TMZ.

Bennington was said to be close to Soundgarden rocker Chris Cornell, who killed himself in May by hanging. 'Chester and Chris were so close, and he was never the same after Chris's death,' the friend told Radar.

Bennington's freind also noted that Cornell's death deeply affected Bennington, who also struggled with 'addiction issues'.

The singer had a history of drug and alcohol abuse. He was married and is survived by his six children from two relationships.

41-year-old Bennington became a household name just a year after joining the band in 1999 with the release of the group's debut album Hybrid Theory. The album was also nominated for a Grammy award for best rock album.

His Linkin Park band-mate Mike Shinoda tweeted that he was "shocked and heartbroken" at the news while other tributes have arrived from Rihanna, Nikki Sixx, Stormzy (with whom Bennington recently worked with), Ohio governor John Kasich.
