EX ASTRONAUT, Lisa Nowak who was arrested for attacking her romantic rival, Colleen Shipman for dating her love interest Bill Oefelein, pleaded guilty to stay away from jail. She was sentenced only to a year’s probation and no additional jail.
Lisa Nowak 46, had agreed to plea to avoid a trial slated for next month, hoping to get a lighter sentence, which she managed to get. Nowak was charged with attempted kidnapping after picking up an altercation with Colleen Shipman. Colleen had started dating Nowak’s ex boyfriend former space shuttle pilot Bill Oefelein.
Nowak admitted that she had driven all the way to Texas from Florida to confront Shipman about her relationship with Oefelein. She claimed that she had gone just to talk it out with Shipman but prosecutors accused her of spraying pepper spray on Shipman in an attempt to kidnap her.
After pleading guilty to lesser charges of burglary and misdemeanour battery, Nowak got a year’s probation along with 50 hours of community service. Moreover she has been asked to stay away from Colleen.
In the court, Nowak told Shipman that she was sincerely sorry for the attack and asked her to move forward from that. Nowak told the judge that she has no problem in staying away from Shipman and her ex boyfriend. Nowak would be returning to her home in Texas to live with her husband and two children, whereas Shipman would go to Alaska to live with Oefelein.
