"I know that," Banwarilal replied carelessly, "That's not my point of confusion."
"Then what's your point of confusion?" I asked bit irritatingly, "Are you confused whether Congress Mukt Bharat is possible or not?"
"No, I am sure Congress is set to lose all elections in the coming years." He added bit seriously, "My confusion is who will be the Prime Ministerial candidate in 2019?"
"Why is it a confusion? Do you think Narendra Modi.." Then suddenly I put brake on my words as I realised that Banwarilal has his typical political understanding. Many times his questions and concerns are based on out of world logics. That's why I continued to stare at him bringing an expression on my face, "What's your confusion man?"
"Ok, let me explain you!" he switched himself into an instructor's mode, "Look, after AAP won Delhi, people started saying that Arvind Kejriwal will be the PM candidate in 2019. Many regional parties too extended their support to Kejriwal. Media too viewed Kejriwal as an alternative to Narendra Modi."
Then came Bihar election results. Nitish Kumar won with a landslide mandate. People forgot Kejriwal and started saying that Nitish Kumar is alternative to Narendra Modi. In fact strategists started working on an anti-BJP front projecting Nitish Kumar as PM in waiting.
Mamata Banerjee and Jayalalithaa have registered a landslide victory in the recent assembly elections, whose results were declared yesterday. TMC followers are now saying that Mamata is the PM material for 2019 general elections. AIADMK followers too are seeing their leader Jayalalithaa as PM material for 2019. My confusion is to whom I consider as PM material?
"That means you dumped Nitish Kumar as PM candidate?" I asked mockingly.
"Not only had me, but everyone has dumped Nitish Kumar!" Banwarilal replied innocently, "Even media dumped Nitish Kumar. But again that's the practice in Indian politics. Dump old one and accept new winner!"
"Why don't you wait till UP election results?" I asked maintaining the same tone.
"How can I wait for a year?" asked Banwarilal.
"What's wrong in waiting?" I asked in a serious tone.
"You can't understand the mindset of people from my circle. We always need a fresh counter to Narendra Modi. A section of media too is very confused on the name of PM candidate in 2019 given the two new winners?"
"You are really an impossible character!" I said.
"You may say it because you are a Bhakt!' he said carelessly, "You can never realise the pain of the section called as non-Bhakts. Anyway you have no answer to my confusion, let me find a solution talking to people with my political orientation."
Banwarilal then left the room without showing any formal courtesy. And I again started focusing on my report.
