Love affair between Maruti 800 and Chennaiites still remains flawless
While many Indian metro cities are in love with Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc, Chennai still loves the charm of the Maruti 800, the economy model of Maruti, which was once the icon of Indian car market and a dream car of middle class Indians. The continuing love affair between the people of Chennai and Maruti 800 is still flawless. Production paralysis has failed to down its demand and till now it still bills atop. This just substantiates the proverb, 'Old id gold'. conducted a study across eight cities, looking at the supply trends of used cars and the corresponding demand for the same, highlighting the buying trends of the used car consumers. Surprisingly, the study revealed that Maruti 800 enjoys a high demand in the used car segment with more and more consumers buying and selling this classic model, reported The Times of India.

Maruti and Tata topped the charts as the most preferred hatchback used car brands with equally high demand and supply. Maruti 800 topped the chart as a clear winner followed by Swift, Alto, and Wagon R in the Maruti section. Tata Indica was the winner among other hatchbacks followed by Hyundai's Santro Xing and i20.

The average asking price for a used car is in the region of Rs 4.3 lakh against the buyer's demand of Rs 3.7 lakh. Besides, 80 per cent of pre-owned car consumers from Chennai look for budget cars in the range of Rs 5 lakh with about 4.5 years of running age, the report revealed. And brand name of the used car and the budget of the consumer are the two most important factors in reselling, while fuel option and mileage also comes into account.
