Love Parade stampede evokes mixed blend of emotions
The world's biggest techno music festival witnessed a horrific situation which left more than 340 people grievously injured and killed 19 people.

AT PRESENT there is a mixed bag of emotions among the people of Ruhr or who were there when the catastrophe struck at the Love Parade, which borders between shock and disbelief. The grief that they hold is now taken over by anger with candle light march. According to an eye witness, who shuddered even at the thought of himself physically present there, he said, “ "Just from seeing how many people were on the street and knowing how narrow the tunnels were, it was an accident waiting to happen”.

The world's biggest techno-music festival witnessed a horrific situation which left more than 340 people grievously injured and killed 19 people. As paramedics and the police tried to reach them through road and air, eye witnesses could not get over the situation wherein they saw piles of bodies who possibly died of claustrophobia. What instigated the stampede still remains a question mark although it has been officially announced by the organisers that it's curtains down for them from now on.

According to official figures, more than 500000 to one million people arrived in Duisburg for the day long festival which was first held in Berlin in the late 1980's but the venue was later shifted to Ruhr which happens to be Germany's former industrial point. The party goers were stuck in an underpass connecting a railway goods lane. This route was taken by the people for reaching the main venue.

On the incident Pope Benedict XVI and Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed their horror and disbelief. The Chancellor also added that this was a horrific day and steps must be taken in future so as to avoid such cases in future.
