A MOVE that will revolutionise classroom education across India, Union HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal on Thursday unveiled a low cost computer device which will be available for students for as low as $35 or Rs 1,500. Earlier, the same laptop was conceptualised by MIT alumni, Nicholas Negroponte which was pegged at $100.

The laptop looks like a hybrid of iPad and tablet PC and it does not require the conventional methods of charging. Being an eco friendly device, the laptop is charged with the help of a sleek solar panel.
The laptop is aimed at those 11 crore students, who come under the Sarva Shiksha Abhyan and that is the reason why this laptop is pegged at such an affordable rate. The laptop is based on Open Source and it comes loaded with other features such as multimedia content viewer (pdf, docx, ods, adp, xls, jpeg, gif,png, bmp, odt, zip, AVCHD, AVI, AC3) searchable PDF reader, unzip tool for unzipping files, Open Office, SciLab, support media player that is capable of playing streamed videos apart from the stored media files,USB port etc.
