According to the Lowell Folk Festival official site schedule, the Lowell Folk Festival will begin on Friday evening, July 23 with a kick-off parade and music and ethnic foods at two performance stages: Dutton Street Dance Pavilion and Boarding House Park.
The National Folk Festival started in 1934 in St. Louis, MO. Since 1989, the National Folk Festival has continued to migrate around the country to Johnstown, PA; Chattanooga, TN; Dayton, OH; East Lansing, MI; Bangor, ME; and is now being hosted in Richmond, VA.
African, Cambodian, Polish, or one of many other flavors, the amazing aromas of these foods drift throughout the Festival. Local cultural organizations come together to prepare and sell foods, representative of their heritage.
On Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and July 25, everything kicks off at noon until 6:00 pm with music, ethnic foods, crafts demonstrations and more throughout downtown Lowell.
The performances and activities within the Festival are free for this 3-day celebration. Food, beverage, and merchandise sales are available throughout the Festival. About 200,000 people are expected to visit during the 24th annual Lowell Folk Festival.
