As a part of its policy to give back to the society, Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar has joined hands with Goonj, an award winning voluntary organisation to initiate Vastra Samman campaign in its campus.
LOVELY PROFESSIONAL University (LPU), Jalandhar, as a part of its policy to give back to the society, joined hands with Goonj, an award winning voluntary organisation to initiate Vastra Samman campaign in its campus. Goonj, as a part of its 'Cloth for work programme', started Vastra Samman, the biggest material collecting campaign nationwide. The aim behind this campaign was to collect material which will be used for the developmental activities of the underdeveloped and far flung villages.
25 students from LPU volunteered for the programme. Collection bags were placed at the entrance of all the departments and hostels. The volunteers educated the students on the use of this money and the importance of their contribution. At the end of the day total collection from the university was 22,750 cash, five sacks of clothes, three sacks of shoes, one sack of stationary and a sack of miscellaneous items like books, toys etc. “I feel so happy to have done something good for the society. Since winter will be soon, the people are in so much need of the clothes and will be happy on receiving them,” said Rahul a student of fashion technology who was a part of the volunteer team.
The faculty members also made special contribution and spoke with the students regarding the move so as to motivated the students to participate in such activities in the future. Dorji, faculty at Business School said, “We are the ones who have to act as role model for the students. The students replicate what we do and it is our duty to teach them the joy of gving.” Through the Goonj Campaign approximately 20,00,000 people from rural and slum background, nationwide, are expected to benefit through clothes, toys and books. “LPU is a family. We being the elders, want to guide our students to become responsible and affectionate towards the societal issues. Acting as a center for Vastra Samman has given us a chance to do the same,” said dean, Rashmi Mittal, who was the initiator of this programme in LPU's premises.
