Luck, Yup!
Is Luck the thing that matters most for any individual? Why is it that some people don't succeed in spite of repeated efforts and some succeed without any effort at all? If the makers of Luck are to be believed, luck matter more than money!

THE PLOT of Luck takes its inspiration from - reality shows (anything but real); a 70s film with that classic melody Hum bewafa hargiz naa thay; Shaalimar made by Krishna Shah; even from the Hollywood hit DOA. The film is about a guy who is high on luck. Moosa, played by Sanjay Dutt, wants contestants for his betting game that involves humans pitting themselves against death!

His man Damang (Danny), sources out the protagonist Ram (Imran Khan) and others - a Major (Mithun Chakravorty), a camel racer - Shortcut (Chitrashi Rawat), a criminal on death-row - Raghav (Ravi Kishan) and a PYT, Ayesha (Shruti Hassan). They all turn up for some bizarre games that test them under extreme circumstances.

The story is wafer-thin; but the treatment has pace; particularly in the first half. The film does sag a bit in the second half but it soon gets back on track. Director Soham Shah has shown marked improvement in his narrative skills compared to his earlier effort Kaal; amazingly though the cinematography of Kaal was better!

Danny stands out from the cast. Sanjay Dutt as Moosa is the same as he was in Plan or Musafir. Imran Khan after Kidnap again fails to impress, he should stick to romantic movies. Mithun Chakravarty reprises his Ghulaami act with the catchphrase "Koi Shaque". Shruti Hassan looks very good on screen, but her acting needs to be honed a great deal or else she will fade into oblivion as just another pretty face.

What rocks the movie:
Danny. It is nice to see him in a key role after such a long time. Sanjay Dutt. Action sequences.

What chucks the movie:
Second half; there was no need for the romantic track. Cinematography, given the subject could have been much more arresting with the use of stylized angles!

Verdict:
This is a genre movie meant only for cinema buffs who love action movies.
For the rest, Love Aaj Kal opens next week.
