Lucknow holds panel discussion on women empowerment ahead of IWD
The Young Business Leaders Forum (YBLF) of PHD Chambers of Commerce & Industry of U.P., Anupma Foundation & Taana Baana held a panel discussion in Lucknow called "I-Inspire" ahead of the International Women's Day (IWD) to be observed on March 8, informed Pratibha Shalini, an old student of mine and also a Facebook friend.

The panel discussion with accomplished women experts from diverse fields was a memorable experience with inspiring and empowering talks by the participants. Among the panelists were Mahant Divya Giri (the first woman Mahant of Lucknow Mankameshwar temple; Geeta Gandhi (President CMS institutions); Laxmi Agarwal (the survivor & campaigner of Stop Acid Attack); Neerja Handa (Spiritual Synergistic) and Prof. Raj Ayyar (IIT- Delhi), she wrote.

Each year, IWD is observed on March 8 to mark the political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide. The day was first observed as a worldwide event after 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women's rights and world peace.

"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights," Gloria Steinem had said once.

According to the UN, the world community requires to recognise the fact that securing peace and social progress along with the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms can only be accomplished by an active participation, equality and development of women.

Further, IWD is an occasion to review women's struggle for equality and development as well as an opportunity to unite, network and mobilize for meaningful change in society.
