Madras HC directs Tamil Nadu govt to provide details on Jayalalithaa's health
The Madras High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to officially provide details regarding Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's health. Jayalalithaa has been hospitalised since 22 September.
The court's comments came while hearing a PIL filed by social activist 'Traffic' KR Ramaswamy. He has sought a detailed report from the government regarding the health condition of the CM. The court has asked the government to get back to it on Wednesday.

In his PIL, Ramaswamy has claimed that he wants to know whether the CM's health is good enough that she will take important decisions and hold meetings of officials and ministers. He also claimed that the people of the state were eager to know about her health condition, to this the court agreed and observed that people were anxious to know about the Chief Minister's health.

While the court refused to pass any order, it directed the Additional Advocate General, C Manishankar to consult the government on the matter.

Manishankar informed told the court that the hospital had been issuing regular medical bulletins daily regarding the CM's health conditions as well as the treatments provided to her.

But the court said releasing hospital bulletins was not enough as being the chief minister of the state, some official release with regard to her health condition was necessary to reduce the anxiety of the people.

"AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa is holding public office, and therefore her state of health must be clarified by government officials before October 6," the HC said in its order on Tuesday.

Earlier DMK Chief M Karunanidhi had also asked the state government to release a photograph of the CM from the hospital to put an end to all rumours surrounding her health.

Party spokesperson CR Saraswathi has asked people to not believe the baseless rumours about the CM's health. He said that Jayalalithaa was meeting ministers and giving instructions on the local body polls.
