Abu Azmi, the Samajwadi Party leader from the state, who had won from two constituencies in Mumbai, declared that he would take his oath in the assembly in Hindi, as he could not speak Marathi. This, invoked the wrath of the MNS.
WHAT HAPPENED in the Maharashtra assembly on its very first day, was more than shameful. A political party that we expect would represent us, behaving with such immaturity, has shown us that the party in question believes that no matter what you expect of us, we will do what is in our favour and would get us more publicity.
Abu Azmi, the Samajwadi Party leader from the state, who had won from two constituencies in Mumbai, declared that he would take his oath in Hindi, as he could not speak Marathi. This, invoked the wrath of the MNS, who took the oath as an insult of Marathi and Marathi Manoos. They took up the issue with aggression, arguing that the oath must be taken in the official language of that state.
Four MLAs from the MNS camp, Shishir Shinde, Ram Kadam, Vasant Gite and Ramesh Vanjale rolled up their sleeves and went near the dais and vented their anger on Azmi, in a blatant show of unparliamentary behaviour.
The incident in Mumbai has affected so many regions in Maharashtra. 30 buses were broken in Pune, curfews were put up in Mumbai and so on. Surely, the Marathi people who had voted for the MNS are now regretting their decision of doing so.
