Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan expanded his ministry with the inclusion 19 members from the Congress and 10 from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in his cabinet.
Prithviraj Chavan was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Maharashtra on November 11 with deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and nine other NCP ministers, including Chhagan Bhujbal and R.R. Patil.
Heavyweights Congress leaders Narayan Rane and Patangrao Kadam along with Shivajirao Moghe, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Balasaheb Thorat and Harshwardhan Patil sworn in as cabinet ministers. Anil Deshmukh, Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar, Babanrao Pachpute and Rajesh Tope took oath from NCP quota.
Earlier, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan held discussions with senior party leaders including Congress president Sonia Gandhi and defence minister A K Antony to the go-ahead for cabinet expansion.
Prithviraj Chavan was chosen by the Congress High Command after the former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was forced to quit as the Chief Minister in connection with Mumbai's posh Colaba area 27-storey Adarsh Housing Society scam.
