UNION MINISTER for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad, presented Gandhi Doot Medals to 19 persons including children and social activists for their contribution in various fields. The function was organised by activists of Gandhi Global Family in Jammu. Azad highlighted the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and termed him the greatest leaders in the world, who uprooted the strongest regime in the world not by using weapons but through his power of non-violence, wisdom and power of tolerance.
Responding to a question of media persons at a function organised by Gandhi Global Family regarding reports of nearly 800 militants waiting to cross over to this side and many of them were Kashmiri youth trapped there, he said this issue needs very serious thought. Attempts of infiltrations were going on from that side despite the fact that we have raised fencing all along the borders. There is need to study this proposal. From where it has generated and what could be the motive behind. There is need to study all aspects before going ahead for any such move, he maintained.
While opposing the proposal of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of granting general amnesty to the hundreds of militants in Pak Occupied Kashmir now willing to return to this part of the State and join national mainstream, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad, today said that this move could be a major security threat and may prove counter-productive for the country. When asked about any set back being caused to peace-initiative between the two countries with the acts of Pak like pushing terrorists and indulging in firing from across the border, former J&K Chief Minister and Union Health Minister said that it is not only the responsibility of India to take lead always in the peace-initiative and strengthening of confidence building measures (CBMs). Pakistan must demonstrate its sincerity while dealing with terrorists. "Who will give guarantee of these youth willing to return? How can you prove that these will be the same youth who had gone to that side for arms training and are now willing to come back by their own choice? Some foreign terrorists can take advantage of this move. Pakistan has not handed over the accused involved in Mumbai terror attack so far. Who can trust them in this case? There are chances of this strategy being adopting by Pakistan to push militants taking cover of this new surrender policy," Azad said.
