Mahendra Singh Dhoni: Experts pan him, are fans deserting him too?
Indian cricket fans are crazy. Indian cricket fans are mad. Indian cricket fans are devoted. In a country where cricketers are demigods for their fans, money and fame come easily for a player, especially if he is a successful player like Mahendra Singh Dhoni. But after the recent streak of failures in the overseas, when ex-cricketers and experts are raising questions about Dhoni's style of captaincy, what do common cricket lovers say?

The recent loss on foreign pitches has raised some serious issues in the Indian Cricket team, they have lost series against South African and now with New Zealand. The reigning world Champions have seems to be struggling with some awful performances, whether in batting, or Bowling, or Fielding, they doesn't look like the old team who thrashed former World Champions Australians in their own backyard recently.

MS Dhoni, who has endured a woeful overseas record as Test captain, going win less in the last 12 matches (10 losses and two draws) across four tours- England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Experts are saying its all the result of his defensive attitude and they have lack the 'go for kill' attitude. They seem to be playing like gully cricket, and not like the world Champions. The experts now considering the names of the dashing Batsmen Virat Kohli or the stylish Yuvraj singh for the post of Indian Captain.

In recent interviews exCaptains have resorted to pointing out the Indian captain's weakness and loopholes in his captaincy. While Ganguly has called his captaincy 'obnoxious', Dravid titles it as 'Defensive'. What do fans say? Are they behind the star player who won them the World Cup or are they raising a finger too? We try to find out.

Moksha Gupta, copy writer, and Dhoni fan, says “ Dhoni is one of my favourite cricketer and he's the captain Cool, i think Dhoni is India's one of the most successful captain till now. He won world cup for us, and the t-20 world cup, champions trophy, and the list is very long. He is just going through a bad phase and thats it, everyone goes through it. One have to trust in the credibility of MS Dhoni. Yes, Virat Kohli is a good batsmen and he surely have the potential to be the next captain of India, and Yuvraj too is one of the best talent we get but the captainship is the bigger job, and not everyone can bear the burden of captaincy. Dhoni has been doing it wonderfully and I do not see any reason to blame him for the recent failures”.

Zeeshan Khan, student, Indian supporter, says “ MS Dhoni is best captain India has seen so far. It is true that we have lost some series on foreign pitches, but that doesn't mean we should change the captain. Why do we only judge him on the present scenario and why don't we look back at his records? If one just goes through the his success percentage, I am sure that critics will shut up. There's no question of changing his role as the captain. Virat obviously seems to be the future of the Indian cricket. He also won for us U-19 World Cup and also shown superb batting skills by scoring runs all over the world, but let him play like this. There is no need to put the burden of Captaincy on him right now. Yuvraj too is a great cricketer but seems to be struggling from his batting form from a long time. So it is better to leave them and have trust in Dhoni.”

Sanjay Singh, IAS aspirant,Dhoni Fan, says “ I think that its time to give relief to Dhoni from the responsibity of Indian Captaincy and try out other options too. Like Virat or Rohit Sharma, or Yuvraj Singh. The recent loss has shown the weakness of Indian Players on Foreign Pitches. Nobody just click at the right time, we batted badly, we bowled badly, and even we fielded badly. I think its all the result of defensive captaincy. As a batsmen or as the wicketkeeper I think there's no substitute for Dhoni but as a captain he sure has given scopes of raising question”.

Hemant Singh, Managment Student, Indian cricket Fan, says “ India is just going through a bad phase - thats it. There is no need to change the captain right now. Asia Cup is coming up and so is T-20 World Cup. It will be better if we concentrate on that and work out on the weaknesses of the team. Virat is a good option to be next in line for the Indian Captain, but I don't think Dhoni has passed his prime. Let Virag mature up more while Dhoni gives Indian cricket even more”.

Seema Sharma, IT professional, Dhoni Fan, says, “No i dont think dhoni is a defensive captain. Recent failures doesnt mean he should be replaced as a captain from indian cricket team. He has proved in the past several times that he can handle the team very well and ups and downs are part of everyone's career that doesnt mean one should get replaced so easily”.
