Mahesh Bhatt all set to remake his 1982 classic 'Arth' with a modern twist
Arth, the film made by Mahesh Bhatt in 1982 starring Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Raj Kiran is considered cult cinema.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has recently said that he is making the remake of the classic film. Revathy would wear the cap of the director. The film would have a modern take on the same subject. The filmmaker wrote, "Revathy to give new meaning to ARTH. Sharat Chandra is the architect of this enduring classic of mine."

The original movie was a semi-autobiographical film which was written by Mahesh Bhatt. Kamlesh Pandey is supposedly the writer of the remake. Bhatt had sold the rights of the film to Sharat Chandra last year.

The film revolved round the subject of an extra-marital affair and has been recommended as the 25 must see movies from Bollywood. as compiled by India Times Movies.

Revathy, who has starred in many substantial roles in Bollywood and southern films, had acted in the Tamil version of the film Marupadiyam (1993) directed by Balu Mahendra.

Revathi told Mumbai Mirror, "I didn't accept the offer immediately as Arth is not a film you can think of remaking, but after speaking to Bhatt saab on Saturday, I was convinced that we can do it. However, this one is not a remake but a modern take on Arth."

Arth, which was written by Mahesh Bhatt, was about his life and his extra-marital relationship with Parveen Babi.

Shabana Azmi won many accolades for her role in the film. She also bagged the National Film and Film Fare award for her flawless acting.

Smita Patel too had given a terrific performance with her innate acting talent for which the actress is known for. Rohini Hattangadi had bagged the Filmfare award for the film.

The film had explored the intricacies of relationships outside marriage. Arth had a storyline which was not very conventional at that time, with the characters reflecting not the typical essence but rather a complex mental state.

The three characters, the husband, the wife and the other women brings many hidden truths of life shielded underneath.
