Mahindra leads the way in enabling agricultural prosperity
A memorandum of understanding, for facilitating innovative farming technology development and dissemination has been signed by Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, the market leader in the Indian tractor industry and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
MAHINDRA AND Mahindra Ltd (M&M), the market leader in the Indian tractor industry and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU), for facilitating innovative farming technology development and dissemination.
 
Under the aegis of the agreement, M&M will provide Mahindra Samriddhi Grant of Rs 10 lakh per year to BHU. The grant will be provided for scientist and post graduate students to undertake research such as seed technology, soil and water conservation, farm mechanisation etc. related to crops like rice, sugarcane, potato, cotton, soybean, wheat, corn and pulses etc. Further, M&M will provide placement opportunities to participating students. The undergraduate students will be given a stipend during experiential learning programme for innovative farming technology dissemination.

“The farm equipment sector has expanded its business vision to move beyond tractors, to the larger arena of facilitating productivity improvement in Indian agriculture. This MoU initiative aims to nurture budding agricultural talent and provide education in innovative farming technologies, thus reflecting M&M’s commitment to agri-prosperity. M&M will sponsor and work in coordination with Banaras Hindu University in pilot projects for soil and water conservation, end to end crop specific mechanisation solutions and synergy between engineering and agronomy,” said Sanjeev Goyle, senior vice president, Marketing and AppliTrac, Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

BHU will extend participation of subject matter specialists (SMS) for dissemination of innovative farming technology through Mahindra Samriddhi. In addition, BHU, through a team of crop experts, will also train M&M and its channel partners’ executives to enhance competency on predominant Kharif and Rabi crops.

Mahindra Samriddhi

Mahindra Samriddhi aims to increase agricultural productivity through innovative farming technology, thereby enhancing rural prosperity. The focus is on going beyond tractors to deliver agri-services to the farming community which will ultimately lead to a better quality of life. An unique initiative in the tractor industry, Mahindra Samriddhi centres truly represent Mahindra’s customer-centric business approach which leverages innovative solutions to address farmer requirements.

As part of this initiative, 96 Mahindra dealerships across India have been transformed into Samriddhi centres, offering the farmer easy access to technological know-how, hybrid seeds, soil and irrigation water testing facilities, demo farms, finance and insurance, internet updates and sales and servicing of tractors and tractor implements.

Mahindra Samriddhi centers provide farmers with the following services:
  • Soil and irrigation water testing facilities;
  • Technology Interface through the Internet;
  • Productivity demo farms;
  • Agri counseling facilities;
  • One stop finance and insurance products;
  • Sale of second hand tractors;
  • Seeds and crop care products.
