Instead of idling time on the birth anniversaries of the great leaders of our nation, like Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar, in the form of holidays, we should celebrate these with extra work days.
GIVING A holiday on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, in the list of compulsory holidays, goes against the very ideals of the Father of the Nation, who always asked his countrymen to work hard.
So, instead of using this date as a holiday, it should be converted into extra work day by extending working in offices by, about half an hour on this day. Likewise, similar holidays given on the birth anniversaries of other prominent leaders like Dr BR Ambedkar’s birthday (April 14), these can also be converted into extra work days.
This concept would the most ideal manner of celebrating birthdays of all great persons like Mahatma Gandhi and Dr BR Ambedkar.
.Excellent Idea, I think this chain of thought should get more support and we should all push for it. Another day dedicated to the nation rather than the self....not for holidaying but for nation building. It will also stop this unnecessary hankering for more holidays on the names of different people. I think we should only have a holiday on Independence Day and that is it. The republic day should also be removed as really speaking it should only have some official significance....Independence Day is what is important as a National Day. Hope there are more people like you to take this forward.
