Make students imbibe values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity:Vice President Hamid Ansari
The Vice President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, stressed on the need for gearing education to develop citizens with the values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity as spelt out in the preamble of Indian Constitution.

Hamid Ansari was of the view that the role of education in Indian society was to help students to imbibe the constitutional fundamentals without deviating from them on any pretext.

While speaking on the occasion of "60th Anniversary of the Springdales School in New Delhi yesterday, the Vice-President added that the values enshrined in our constitution needed to be reflected faithfully in our educational curricula.

Appreciating the contribution of the school to the society, Ansari said, "With its unique blend of progressive educational movement and the educational philosophy of our great Indian educationists like Rabindra Nath Tagore, the School has been imparting its students not only with quality academic knowledge but also a concern for the environment, the spirit of community and international amity."

He also appreciated the commemoration of the school's 60th anniversary celebrations with conference on the theme 'In search of a Humane Society - The role of education'.

There is need for educational reform in India based on student-centered teaching with conducive relationships between students and teachers; empathy for students and society and developing teachers as learning facilitators, I feel. Schools need to engage students holistically to make them rational thinkers and life-long learners.
