THE BLOCK level celebration of traditional tribal festival Malyabanta Mahotsav, has been kicked off at Mugi point, the confluence of the rivers Saveri and Sileru in Motu, Orissa. The celebrations began amidst much fanfare and celebration on Sunday, November 1.
The area collector Dr Nitin Bhanudas Jawale, accompanied by Additional district Magistrate Sundarlal Seal, Rural Development Agency project Director Govinda Chandra Sethy and Culture Officer Subash Chandra Nial arrived here and joined the procession to Mugi point, amidst traditional colourful Koya dance and beating of drums.
Later, Jawale collected the holy water from the legendary confluence of the rivers and formally kicked off the celebrations. All the district level officers were present on the occasion. After the festive puja, he remarked that the place, situated 100 feet above sea level, had a lot of potential for tourism.
The Malyabanta Mahotsav not only provides a common platform for the tribal flock to exhibit their hidden talents but, also enables them to have a better interaction. Last, year the block level celebration was kicked off from Bonda Hill.
The block level celebration of the Mahostav, would be held in Malkangiri on November 10, followed by Kalimela on November 11, Kudmulgumma on November 12, Mathili on November13, Khairput on November 15 and Korukonda on November 16.
The first mahostav of this type was organised six years ago, by the then collector Munish Moudgi, with a mission to provide a suitable platform for the tribals to showcase their hidden talents. Since then, it is organised every year.
