After ending the 34-year long Left rule in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress head Mamata Banerjee will today take oath as West Bengal's Chief Minister at 1:01 pm. The ceremony will be attended by leading personalities from politics and business.
UNION RAILWAYS Minister Mamata Banerjee will today take oath as the eighth Chief Minister of West Bengal in the presence of 3,200 dignitaries, which will also include former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. The ceremony will take place at Kolkata’s Raj Bhavan amidst a thick blanket of security cover at 1:01 pm. The ceremony will also be attended by union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose and representatives of other LF parties.
Mamata will take charge as the first Chief Minister of West Bengal after ending the 34-year rule of the Left rule in the state. Party officials cognizant with the swearing in ceremony have said that Sonia Gandhi will not be a part of the historic day. Along with Mamata, 36 ministers from the Trinamool and seven from the alliance party Congress will take oath, which will be administered by Governor MK Narayanan.While Mamata resigned as the railways minister, news reports say that her successor is likely to be Mukul Roy - although the Prime Minister’s office has not confirmed his appointment. There are also reports suggesting that Roy was given the state railway portfolio and was asked to officially take charge on Thursday evening at the Eastern Railways Headquarters located at Fairlie Place in Kolkata.
