Mamata Banerjee to reshuffle her 31-month-old cabinet today
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to reshuffle her cabinet today on 26th December, just days pulling up several ministers including the IT minister and senior party leader Partha Chatterjee for non-performance. There is no official information on whether the portfolios of the existing ministers will be changed or some new faces will replace the existing ministers in the cabinet.

The CM secretariat had issued two different invitation cards for the swearing-in ceremony, which will be held in Raj Bhawan. There is a lot of uncertainty among Trinamool leaders over this proposed cabinet reshuffle. The CM has recently reviewed the performance of all departments and pulled up non-performing ministers and bureaucrats at a meeting on December 20, reported nnis.

But according to a release in Trinamool's website, it is expected that two new faces are likely to join the ministry and a minister of state shall be given independent charges. Shashi Panja, the MLA of Shyampukur in North Calcutta is rumoured to be inducted into the Council of Ministers and will take an oath at Raj Bhavan as a Minister with independent charge. Binay Burman, the MLA of Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar, will replace Hiten Burman as the forest minister, reported Telegraph.

With this new cabinet reshuffle, the number of ministers will increase to 44, which is the maximum a state can have. The lack of clarity in the reshuffling of ministers by Mamata has raised a lot of speculations on the nature and extent of reshuffle. If the reshuffle is based on performance, then most of the old ministers are likely to lose their positions.
