Mamata Banerjee's regional focus sending wrong signals
Common people want someone to be available for them to solve the problems related to their everyday life and take them and the nation ahead. She must remember she will not gain votes in Bengal by neglecting her ministry.
MAMATA BANERJEE, Union Minister for Railways has made it clear to all, West Bengal is her home not Delhi and she has been elected to serve the people of her state first. Agreed, but what about her role as a Union Minister for Railways. As a Trinmool Congress chief she can certainly involve herself in all polls in West Bengal at any time, but as a railway minister she should be in the office and accountable.
All union ministers are members of Parliament and when parliament is not in business, MPs have right to visit their constituency and they need not return to the national capital until the next parliament session. If MPs become Union Ministers, their offices are certainly housed in New Delhi and significantly daily business of Ministry to take care of. The Union Minister as an MP has every right to check their constituency but in case of Mamta Banerjee she sits in her constituency indefinitely. Does she not have any responsibility towards her ministry as she has been missing from cabinet meetings. She was missing from action during Mumbai motormen's strike and so on. On top of it, the minister is unaccountable and she also said that no one could force her to stay in Delhi. Is this way to serve people? It is surprising that even the Prime Minister failed to utter any word against her due to coalition government and fear of withdrawing support. It seems Mamta has no interest in functioning of her Ministry. Banerjee has demonstrated that her ministry is not her priority, that she wants to use railways for regional and narrow political ends. India does not need any more ministers just to fill the cabinet berth. Common people want someone to be available for them to solve the problems related to their everyday life and take them and the nation ahead. She must remember she will not gain votes in Bengal by neglecting her ministry.
