Though the state elections will be a direct fight between the CPI (M) and TMC in West Bengal, the Congress party, too, would like to have its share in the seats as it will keep the alliance strong in the state as well as at the Centre.
UNION RAILWAY minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) Chief Mamata Banerjee has stated that she will not contest in the upcoming state assembly elections in West Bengal, and she would just look after the electoral campaign on the lines of how Nitish Kumar conducting his campaign.
Mamata Banerjee looked jubilant after the Election Commission announced the dates for polling in the West Bengal where elections will be held in six phases beginning April 18. However, Mamata Banerjee is keeping her cards close to her heart as she did not reveal her ‘action plan’ regarding the poll strategy and her party’s seat sharing formula with the Indian National Congress (INC), which is the major party and ally in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre. Though it will be a direct fight between the CPI (M) and TMC in West Bengal, the Congress party, too, would like to have its share in the seats as it will keep the alliance strong in the state as well as at the Centre.
TMC has already dubbed the fight to be for the right of ‘Ma, Mati and Manush’ (Mother, earth and people), which is also their slogan for the elections. Mamata Banerjee has also made it clear that she would think of becoming the member of assembly only if her party is voted to power. She has already been projected as the chief minister of West Bengal in the state by her party TMC, which has been doing all the ground work. Will Mamata Banerjee be able to bring down the (mis) rule of the Left in the state, which remained in their hands for more than three decades, and has been often made responsible for all the mess the state is presently into? The victory of TMC in West Bengal will also determine the future course of action by the party and that could also make some impact on the UPA at the Centre.
