Mamata's 'Delhi Chodo' call - more hysterical than heroic
Mamata's decision of leaving UPA is more hysterical than heroic. Since public memory is short, she may not draw any political mileage, which she craves for after such a sacrifice. Earlier she hysterically left the NDA and became politically non-existent and who knows she may face the same situation again.

NETAJI, DURING the independence days called for ‘Delhi Chalo’. Mamata seems to have modified it and now she has called for ‘Delhi Chodo’. Her euphoria prevails now in Bengal, but it will fail to create an all India wave.

Her crusade against Manmohan Singh government’s policies is welcome but this obviously involves more risks than rewards. She is not in a position to go to either the camp of Modi or Nitish. Congress and BJP-led coalitions cannot be her choice. Even the new platform that she might share with Anna Hazare is no longer available as Annaji made it clear that he was against forming a political party.

Team Anna is divided over the issue of taking a political plunge. Hazare made it clear that he does not support the anti-corruption movement taking a political plunge. Explaining his stand against fighting elections, he had said his appeal was that they should not fight elections. Congress showed its ability in managing the majority vote in the Parliament. No mid term poll will occur, as both BJP and Congress do not want it. Regional parties like that of Mulayam, Mayawati, Karunanidhi or even Nitish do help little in decentralization. Their maneuvers only intensified chaos.

Recently, the crusade of Mamata only added to the prevailing chaos. With the help of birds of same feather flocking together, economic reforms will continue. Only Mamata will be a scapegoat. She may get some mileage in the ensuing Panchayat elections. But in the next assembly election people may be oblivious of her sacrifice. Public memory is very short, very short and the Mamata euphoria may die even before the Lok Sabha elections of 2014.

There are risks because the UPA will not fall immediately as there are many new friends. Nitish Kumar who is now craving for the coveted special Bihar package may rush to the rescue of the falling ship, which Mamata deserted more emotionally than rationally. Mulayam Singh Yadav is already getting his reward for his political ditching of Didi by promise of support to Congress during the presidential elections. The UP is going to get the special package. Such package was being prepared for Mamata’s West Bengal too. Now there is every chance of it going to Bihar if the new friend Nitish to the surprise of everybody comes forward to the rescue of UPA.

The Union finance minister P Chidambaram has already given such hints about new friends although he did not mention the names. Mamata is now a greater foe than BJP for Congress. The state exchequer is almost empty. People may not forgive her if Bihar and UP tactfully get the special package and West Bengal comes empty handed after all the crusade. There is also another argument that TMC ministers could fight against Congress in a better way from within the UPA. Now without Mamata, Congress will carry on with their reforms in full swing and there is no one now to bridle the reforms or diesel price hike.

There are indeed risks for Mamata, because TMC will now have to fight. Congress and CPI(M) all alone and there is every possibility that the two old friends who in UPA I fell out, will now come closer on the excuse of fighting communalism. Even on Thursday Mamata expressed support for the issues against which BJP organised the bandh on Sept 20. Bharat Bandh was successful although Mamata has taken enough pains to convince the media that Bengal does not need to organise such bandhs. The illogicality of her argument is more apparent when she says that bandh is the ultimate weapon that can be used by poor people for voicing their anger and grievances against bad governance. How does she come to such a conclusion that she is providing good governance and there is no need for bandh in the state where even innocent professors are arrested for drawing cartoons, the same thing repeated by Congress only a few days later.

Mamata may rue her lost voice if TMC would have stayed in the UPA. Now who will care for her? There is further risk, if Mamata decides to join the NDA coalition in the next Lok Sabha elections, her minority vote bank will be worst affected in the state and CPI(M) will try to fish in the dirty waters. In that case, Mamata may fail to gain nothing except a lease of euphoria.

What makes Congress most furious is that Mamata appears very much whimsical to them since the Presidential election. The Wikileaks once exposed that Sonia personally regards the Left as more reliable than Mamata. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Mamata shares the BJP perception that Congress is a sinking ship. Like a wise rat she deserted it quickly. But isn’t it too quick? The million dollar question is now on the lips of every one, nay even on the lips of her own supporters and party men. The decision was more hysterical than heroical and she will very soon rue for it when the CPI(M) and Congress begin the two pronged attack on her party and government.

thanks Mr. Subroto Sarkar... you are very correct to say that the Left is dying... I only want to add that the Left was dead in the world... in West Bengal just the Left has committed suicide
Congratulation for this beautiful article. I am tempted to add color it more and a bit trumpeting for myself too. For last 15 mths I am trekking rural villages talking to the suppressed cultivators. A cabbage which he sells for 2 Rs is being sold at the retail end for 18, There are persons who just lends the money to buy the produce then sells it to another on spot to carry it to the mundy where it changes hands to reach the final point. These people or middleman does nothing but takes the cream. All are member of TMC, So more than the feeling for the cultivators Momota feels for these people, Result opposes FDI in retail. She is begging to Delhi for money where as these FDI will bring in investment to the cash starved Bengal economy. She should take it positive. Form cultivators co-operative and burgain for fare price. Further 45% of the vegetables grown are rotten up before reaching the market. FDI will save that which will increase gain to the cultivators.irana stores can take 200% profit, There is no problem but if FDI takes 100% it is wrong. Further Govt has fixed that 50% of the investment will be on infrastructure which means setting up godown, cold storage transport vehicle etc. This will give boost to economy as well as employment opportunity. This did not go into her head. Cocoa cola is buying huge amount of potato from the cultivators in the state, The cultivators are benefited. They are not protesting low price and are happy. Such a practical case did not deter her from protesting, When I explained these in panchayat meetings and the rural youth they understand it. But when I place it in writing to the ministers they just throw it in dustbin Mamota is also one of them. Today Bengal cultivators are going in other states to do construction activity. Naturally they will see the benefit of FDI in their own eyes. Eletion result will reply it. The left is dying. A part who objected tooth and nail to introduce computer is now using computer in all pf its offices. So people has learnt that it is an opportunistic party whose presence in Political arena has expired. It will liquidate with the passage of time. Momota had a great advantage but will pay the price after left TMC will be consign to history. The intelligent younger generation has to form a new party to save Bengal.
