Manav Rachna international school Gurgaon organised its annual sports meet at Tau Devi Lal stadium on Saturday. The guest of honour at the event was Ronjan Sodhi, Gold medallist trap shooter Asian Games.
CONTRARY TO the days of yore when educational institutes gave more emphasis to education than extracurricular activities, Manav Rachna International school sector 51 held its annual sports meet at Tau Devi Lal stadium in Gurgaon on Saturday that will probably lay the foundation for a better and prepared individual. The sports meet titled Sportek 2011 saw the students literally on their toes with their parents cheering for them from the stands.

The dignitaries present during the event included SY Siddiqui, Managing Executive Officer, MSIL, Ronjan Sodhi Gold medallist Trap shooter Asian Games and Dr. OP Bhalla. Sodhi was the guest of honour at the event who along with Siddiqui declared the competition open by releasing balloons conveying the message of working together for higher ambitions. Post the declaration ceremony, the programme started with the Torch Lighting followed by March past by the students to the drum beats of the school infusing the true spirit of patriotism and sportsman spirit in every one. With every thump and beat of the drums, the students looked keen and displayed their energies, courage and pride for their school and more importantly their respective houses. The captains if the respective houses took oath, to maintain the integrity of the school as well as the nation.
Speaking about the event, Sodhi told merinews.com that, “This is a fantastic event by the school and children should be encouraged more into sports as they are the future of the country. Since there is no dearth of sporting talent in Gurgaon and Haryana on the whole, the infrastructure and stadiums like Tau Devi Lal stadium should be built more amid the high rises in the city”.
