One of the most interesting English Premier League season has come to an end with Manchester City being crowned champions on the final day of the league. Manchester City finished the league with 86 points from 38 matches, winning 27 and losing 5. Manchester City deservedly won the title race, which saw a number of twists and turns along the way.
Needing a point
to clinch the title, Manchester City were pitted against West Ham.
City with their strong looking squad showed their class defeating the
Hammers, 2-0 with goals from Samir Nasri and their skipper Vincent
Kompany in the first and second half respectively. It was a game,
which established that City were a champion team, handling pressure
and putting up good performance to clinch the title.
Manchester City possesses one of the strongest squad in the
competition, all thanks to the rich billionaires who own the team.
They have been spending lavishly during the transfer window, trying
to inject some of the best players in the team and the results are
there for everyone to see. City has won two EPL titles in three
years, which is by no means an easy task, considering the competitive
nature of the EPL.
Pelligrini deserves credit for marshalling his troops towards the
title with discipline. City also need to thank Chelsea for defeating
Liverpool, who were considered favourites till then. After City lost
to Liverpool in the all important game at Anfield, the reds were
considered favourites and end their league drought, but that was not
to be. If the reds' were to lift the title, they needed West Ham to
win the game and Liverpool defeat Newcastle, but the West Ham's
result did not help Liverpool, who had to be content with a second
other half of Manchester (United) might have been utterly
disappointed to see their rivals lift the trophy and see their team
struggle against Southampton, where they drew 1-1. Moreso, it was
disappointing to see them seventh in the league. While, it must be
teams such as Liverpool, Sunderland, Crystal Palace who exceeded
their expectations during the season. One cannot simply wait for the
next season to kick-off.
