ONE OF the most eagerly anticipated matches in the Champions League, saw Manchester United beat Liverpool by 2-1, with fantastic goals from Wayne Rooney and Park Ji Sung on Sunday at the Old Trafford. Manchester United now leads the English Premier League, beating Arsenal and Chelsea.

When the Manchester United vs Liverpool game began, the first ten minutes saw the most incidents at the Old Trafford between the two long time rivals. Within five minutes into play, Fernando Torres scored a goal for Liverpool from close range. Fans went into a frenzy, believing that the defending champions could score a victory here too.

The home team Manchester United tried to level the scores seven minutes later, with Antonio Valencia shooting towards the Liverpool goal before he was stopped by Javier Mascherano. Refree Howard Webb saw the foul, giving Manchester United a penalty.

A match of words took the Old Trafford by storm, when Javier Mascherano was given the yellow card, with Manchester United growling it should have been red and the Liverpool team angrily fighting the decision. While Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were involved on side, rival managers Ferguson and Rafael Benitez were fighting on the other.

Forward Wayne Rooney earned Manchester United their first goal, after his first attempt was saved by Liverpool's Pepe Raina. His penalty kick had been poor, but the English forward caught the rebound quickly, sending it sailing through the goal.

A smooth goal was later orchestrated by the Korean Park Ji Sung.
