Maneka Gandhi demands arrest of Shaktiman's killer, Kiran Bedi wants review of horse deployment policy, Politicisation also begins
Uttarakhand Police horse Shaktiman, whose leg was brutally hit during clashes between BJP protesters and the police, passed away yesterday due to its injuries. Union minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi has demanded arrest of those who are responsible for killing the horse.

After being allegedly attacked by Ganesh Joshi during BJP's protest against the government, Shaktiman's leg had to be amputated and a prosthetic leg that was brought from the US was implanted by a team of doctors. But the horse failed to recover from the injury.

Maneka Gandhi said that Shaktiman was "police officer on duty". The minister demanded that the person(s) responsible for its death should be charged for killing a police officer. She also demanded that horses should not be included in Police force.

"I am deeply saddened by the death of 'Shaktiman'. It is an extremely unfortunate incident. Horses should no longer be part of our police system," she said as per a report by hindustantimes.com.

Former IPS officer, activist and politician Kiran Bedi too demanded review of the deployment policy for police horses.

Loss of Shaktiman must make us re-examine the way we deploy Mounted Police. Its best for patrolling-Gives high visibility. Avoid agitations..

BJP MP Hema Malini called Shaktiman a victim brutality and cruelty.

Meanwhile BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi who is prime accused in this case has once again defended himself while claiming that he has no role in Shaktiman's death. He said, "Very sad. I already said that I am not at fault, if found guilty then cut my leg."

However, the Congress has once again blamed Ganesh Joshi for Shaktiman's death. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "Like Modiji murdered democracy, a BJP MLA made fatal attack on Shaktimaan. Unfortunate."

Politicisation of Shaktiman's death has gained pace with BJP and Congress blaming each other. AAP has also jumped into with its senior leaders reacting on the death of the horse.

Politicians may be seeing Shaktiman's death as an opportunity to attack each other, but, in non-political world their attempt of politicising a horse death is being highly criticised.
