Manipur to host 105th Indian Science Congress this year
The 105th Indian Science Congress is going to be held between 16-20 March at Manipur University in Imphal of Manipur state.

"This congress will focus on translational science for promoting affordable sustainable innovation. During the five days, thrust will be given on various science disciplines, which has reached to the society. In a way, discussions will be on science for all, Science and Technology Fostering Inclusive Societal Development and Science & Society: Bridging the Gap through Innovations. A technology based start-up conclave also will be showcased inviting the top class innovators and entrepreneurial researchers," stated an official release.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to address the Indian Science Congress and speak to the delegates. At the event, two Nobel Laureates, Muhammed Yunus from Bangladesh and Hiroshi Amano from Japan are most likely to participate. However, the third Nobel Laureate, the Dalai Lama, is reportedly going to give it a miss due to the current Indo-China tensions.

Often every year, at the event, around 3-4 Nobel Laureates from the areas of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, peace, economics, and field prize in mathematics consent to be the chief guests.

According the release, the event is annually supported by all science and engineering academies of India; all Ministers promoting Science & Technology (DST, DBT, CSIR, ICMR, ICAR, MSME, AICTE, UGC, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Skills) who are represented by Minister, Secretary, Advisor, etc.

Further, all national Science Academies of the world (USA, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, South Korea, Australia, Japan etc.) lend support to this mega event attended by thousands of delegates.

The event also works as forum for showcasing and promoting bilateral programs on science & technology such as Indo-US, Indo-German, Indo-Swiss, Indo-Israel, Indo-Australian as well as industry partnership promoting Institute-industry collaborations in the areas of medical devices, biotech industries, chemical, mining, IT, etc.

Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) also plays an important role in making the event successful. The ISCA is a premier scientific organisation of India with headquarters at Kolkata, West Bengal, which was started in the year 1914 and has a membership of more than 30,000 scientists.
