THE MANMOHAN Singh government has not covered itself with glory by its utter lack of action and then its flip flop over FDI in retail. Manmohan Singh has shown to be a spineless Prime Minister. Pictures posted on social media sites show him as sitting in Sonia Gandhi's lap or cavorting with her. In normal conversation, people have worse things to say about the Prime Minister and his band of lawyers-turned-ministers. Kapil Sibal is one of them. The man wants to curb what people share on social media sites. I will not go into the debate about freedom of expression here, but try to answer the question as to why these images become popular for people to tag and share them.

Indians have taken too much nonsense from politicians and the only way to show frustration at the inactive government, dishonest in its intentions, is to share some offensive pictures. The youth of the country are disgusted at the lack of opportuinities and the lack of progress. In the name of democracy, they see reservations and corruption. The country's progress is held up by old fogies who are still living in visions of socialist grandeur. They know that India can be a much greater country, if only decisions are made quickly and governance is better. Yet, the spineless politicians are just interested in biding their time to make some money before the next elections.
What does a frustrated population to do? We cannot be angry young men and shoot the politicians, as Amitabh Bachchan did in one of his movies. We can only share pictures in which the relationships are shown in a humorous, if offensive, manner.
The minister has to realise that this material is a result of government incompetence. If these guys did their jobs, nobosy would circulate such pictures. We can always "unlike" content that we do not agree with. The very fact that we like the stuff means that we agree to the sentiments that went behind creating those pics. So, if you do not want want to see Manmohan Singh washing the clothes of Sonia Gandhi just to roam around as Prime Minister, well, he should stop doing that.
