It definitely signifies that it is one of the richest countries in the world. Everyone dreams about visiting America once during their lifetime. It must be a startling fact for many people, as we have always thought US to be one of the most prosperous countries in the world with very few people living below the poverty line in the US. According to the report, Mississippi comprises of the largest number of poor people in the US. Other states that stand in the top four in this category are states such as Louisiana, Georgia, and the District of Columbia.
US have witnessed an accelerating growth as far as poverty is concerned in recent years. As per the stats, the poverty rate stood at 14.3 per cent in the year 2009 and it had increased to 15.1 in the year 2010. The main reason for such kind of poverty has been the growing unemployment problem, which has been badly hit for few years or so.
The Obama administration has also not been successful to put a control on unemployment in the US, which has also been growing alarmingly. With presidential elections scheduled for next year, Obama could score some great voting points before the elections if he manages to bring more employment in the US. The residents of the US have been very annoyed with the prevailing unemployment conditions in the US.
