THE TWO day bandh called by the Maoist in Orissa and Andhra Pradesh border which began on Wednesday (November 4) was partially successful under Visakhapatnam Agency and in Malkangiri district of Orissa. However, the bandh was not much affected in Vizianagaram and Srikakulum districts of Andhra Pradesh. The bandh was called in protest against the operation Godavari lunched in the Maoist dominated states.

The Maoists activists blasted a guest house owned by a multinational company (ESSR Steel Company) in Chitrakonda of Malkangiri district of Orissa state. The district collector of Malkangiri, Nitin Bhanudas Jawale said that the guest house was about one kilometer from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp posted for anti-Naxal activities. The Naxals also burnt the official records and confined two engineers inside one of the rooms of the guest house and snatched away their mobile phones and laptop. The ESSR Company transports ‘iron ore slurry’ from Bailadila to Visakhapatnam through pipes layed covering from Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.

The bus communications put to halt from Koraput to Narayanpatna, Narayanpatna to Bandhugaon and Parvatipuram in Andhra Pradesh. The revenue headquarters of Paderu under Visakhapatnam Agency looked deserted with all the shops and traders downing their shutters voluntarily. Most of the government officials and bank officials in Paderu and Chinapalli (Visakhapatnam Agency) were found absent.

The road transport corporation of Visakhapatnam divisional office suspended all their services to the interior villages and the buses from Visakhapatnam depot were suspended going towards Paderu in Andhra Pradesh (Agency area) and Jolaput in Koraput district (Orissa). Even the private vehicles were off the road.
