CPI(Maoists) have burnt heavy machines including equipment for construction work, and damaged materials in Malakangiri district of Odisha, according to local police.
MORE THAN 40 armed Maoists raided a construction site near Malakangiri village 22 under Kalimela Block last night on October 27 where the construction of culvert over stream is in progress. The laborers and skilled workers ran away from the spot out of fear.
The Maoists set fire to heavy equipment and threw other materials including cement, iron rods, according to the police. Earlier, Maoists killed a village headman by slitting his throat on last Friday night. According to official sources, more than 50 armed Maoists went to village Parasanapalli under Podiya Block of Malakangiri district late on Friday night and woke up sleeping Pandu Madakami at gun point and killed him by slitting his throat. A small peace of paper found near the body termed the deceased as a police informer.
With local police putting pressure on Maoists, and the Maoists losing trust of locals, they have been forced to adopt strong-arm tactics to instill and fear in order to protect themselves.
