Maoists continue depredations in West Bengal
The Maoists continue their depredations in West Bengal even as Union Home Minister promises strong actions. On the other hand, his cabinet colleague Mamata Banerjee continues to protect the Maoists under some pressure.
MAOISTS CONTINUES to tease Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, while his colleague Mamata Banerjee carries on with her gimmicks denying the existence of the red rebels in West Bengal.

The Maoists killed two police officials, kidnapped another, kept Rajdhani Express under hostage for over five hours and abducted three Communist Party of India (Marxist) activists to taunt Chidambaram’s proposed vigorous actions, which continued to be deferred under some pretext or other.

The CPI (M) leaders have urged the Prime Minister to take action against his cabinet colleague for reported hobnobbing with the Maoists, while Mamta Banerjee demanded deployment of the army and promulgation of Article 356 of the Constitution to dethrone the Left Front government in West Bengal.

In her own style, Banerjee ridiculously blamed the CPI (M) for Rajdhani Express held up and even recent accident near Mathura but failed to show the required guts to hold the Maoists responsible for their bloody operations in the state.

Though she changed her stance later, she did not show the necessary courage to name the Maoists or the People’s Action Committee for the Rajdhani Express incident.

Intelligence agencies have, however, raised a number of serious questions regarding the Tuesday’s (October 27) drama near Banstala Halt Station. They wondered how a Rajdhani Express could leave Kharagpur without Railway Protection Force men and at whose instruction the RPF men got down at the same station leaving the important train and its passengers without any security.

They also expressed surprise at the reported statement of her colleague Sisir Adhikari that he was aware that such an incident like the hostage of Rajdhani Express would happen. “If Adhikari was aware of such an incident why didn’t he alert the Railway Ministry or the Home Ministry?” they asked.

Quoting reports from the eyewitnesses and the villagers, they said the Maoists forced the members of the People Action Committee to block the railway track and take the passengers of the train as hostages.

A spokesman of the action committee also claimed that it went for such an action to demand immediate release of its leader Chatradhar Mahato from jail. Mahhato had been put behind the bars on several charges, including the one for assisting the Maoists in their operations in the Jungle Mahal.

Some CPI (M) leaders, however, alleged that the Banstala Halt Station incident was a got up one and the Trinamool Congress and the party’s leaders were aware of it.

They also alleged that the Trinamool Congress was bent upon creating anarchy in the state to come to the power in the next assembly elections in the state.

“The Trinamool Congress is trying to create a situation, which is similar to that of late 60s and early 70s. Congress came to power in 1972, after such a chaotic situation. But the state’s growth was retarded by at least 20 years due to Naxalite movement. If Trinamool Congress becomes successful in creating such a situation once again, the state’s growth will be retarded by another 20 years and our children will have to pay for this,” they claimed.
