In Koraput district of Odisha, Maoists killed a physically challenged person, Mishra Khosla, belonging to the Dalit community, on Tuesday night according to sources in local police.
AS PER information given out by local police Mishra Khosla owned two jeeps, which were used to ferry passengers between Monkidi and Ichapur villages under Narayanpatna Block of Koraput District in Odisha state. The Maoists also torched his two Jeeps. The dead body was found by the villagers in a pool of blood near Mankidi village 15 km from the block head quarters. The Maoists had slit his throat.

In a letter written In Telugu, which was found near the dead body, the Maoists alleged that Khosla was a police informer and was meted out capital punishment according to a decision by the Praja Court. The letter was signed “Daya” secretary of Koraput – Srikakullam divisional committee of CPI (Maoists). The Koraput Superintendent of Police, Anup Sahu told news persons that Khosla had no links with the police, and the killing was aimed at terrorizing people.
Koraput is part of the 'Red Corridor', a term used to denote the region in the east of India, which reports heavy insurgency by Naxalites. Regions such as Koraput are marked by high illetracy, poverty and lack of resources. The corridor envelops parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The district of Koraput has been named by the Union government as one of the most backward districts out of a total of 640 Indian districts.
