MAOISTS STRUCK on early Monday morning near Rourkela by blowing parts of railway tracks leading to disruption of train services on the Howrah-Mumbai route. The Maoists have also called for a 72-hour strike to protest against an offensive launched by the state government.
A goods train was also derailed due to the displacement of track after explosion was caused by the ultras. The movement of trains and even road traffic has been been badly affected in Jharkhand due to the strike called by the Maoists. Due to the danger posed by the Maoists, Rail authorities cancelled some trains and changed the routes of others to ensure that there was no untoward incident. A majority of railway stations in the state are affected by Maoist depredations.
The three-day strike has been called by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand to oppose the proposed offensive to be launched against them by these governments.
