Marissa Meyer top Google executive to lead Yahoo
All the news channels are buzzing with the news that Yahoo has hired one of Google's top executives, and she would be joining the company from today as its CEO. Twitter is also abuzz after this development.

IN ONE of the most intriguing and interesting coups, Yahoo hired 37-year-old Marissa Meyer, who was incidentally one of Google's top executives and its first female engineer, as the head. With this jump from one company to another and that too leading Yahoo has made her one of the most prominent and important women of the Silicon Valley. That she was about to make the switch and was considered as one of the candidate for the top job, was kept a complete secret.

Yahoo, although an yesteryear favorite mailing service, is failing in the new era of Facebook, Twitter and Google, and in order to keep up in the virtual world they have changed five chief executives in the last five years and Marissa Meyers is the fifth one. She is, however, the second woman to lead Yahoo.

As reported in guardian.co.uk, Meyer will start work in Yahoo from Tuesday 17 July and after the appointment she said, "I am honoured and delighted to lead Yahoo, one of the Internet's premier destinations for more than 700 million users. I look forward to working with the company's dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world.” With Meyer's, Yahoo wants to revamp their site and bring in more innovation as far as the technology goes.

Twitter, meanwhile, is buzzing with this interesting development as for many Meyer was a prominent voice of Google, having joined the company when it was just 1 year old, and spending the next 13 years with it. While Yahoo CEO is trending, someone tweeted, “ Marissa Mayer’s shock move from Google VP to Yahoo CEO.” There were many who could not get over the fact that she actually went over to a rival company, there were many who actually seemed happy and tweeted, “WOW: Confirmed: Marissa Mayer Leaving Google For Yahoo CEO Role.” Some also joked about the fact that she is pregnant and wrote, “Marissa Mayer, New Yahoo CEO, is Pregnant and due in October. Yahoo now can boast of atleast one person who'll surely deliver!” The fact that Meyer's is pregnant and even that did not deter the Yahoo guys from hiring her speaks a lot. This bit of information attracted a lot of tweets on Twitter.
