Marriage vs Divorce: Divorce winning, latest victim is Russell Brand and Katy Perry
The British comedian and singer had a fairytale marriage with elephants, mahouts and jugglers but now they are going their separate ways. They must be thanking the people who invented divorce or how would they have lived with irreconcilable differences?

THANKS TO celebrities, divorces have become glamourous and the subject of gossip - even as today’s generation loses faith in the concept of marriage. Whenever there is a celebrity marriage and they say ‘until death does us apart', there is a question that remains in everyone’s head ‘so when is the marriage dying?’ it is not so rampant in Bollywood as even now somewhere, traditional values hold us together. Having said that, we cannot close our eyes to the fact that people in the Indian film fraternity following the West have married for the sake of reality television. The latest marriage to hit the dust has been that of Russell Brand and Katy Perry. Married for 14 months and talking in a chat show two weeks ago about how blissful they are married to each other, this is the headline that's caught every newspaper's fancy in Britain.

Russell, the 34-year-old British comedian, who is well known for his goofy self and his straight face humour, spent his Christmas away from his loving wife Katy. They both were sighted without their wedding bands and that in itself was making news. People were waiting for the news to come out as the couple, when in love, where hardly seen an inch apart. The filing of the divorce was, however, Russell’s idea, and he came up with the statement while filing the papers at the Superior Court in Los Angeles that they are separating due to ‘irreconcilable differences’ although they would remain friends, reported Daily Mail.

That is the most clichéd line anyone could come up with, and we expected something original from Russell. Anyhow, it seems that the process would not be cumbersome and the scene would not turn dirty, thanks to a pre-nuptial agreement they signed. Pre-nup is another thing that is becoming big in India, thanks to the influence of the Hollywood. Although given the outcome it is the safest bet but there is a sinister connotation attached to it; almost as if the couple know that the marriage is not going to work.

Russell and Katy were really happy but if we believe the grapevine then Russell was not happy with Katy’s partying ways and he wanted her to tone down things, to which she did not agree. It seemed that the singer chose partying over Russell. The pair met in 2009 and only after four months of dating tied the knot in a lavish affair. Russell, who was known for his drugs, alcohol ways redeemed himself and went sober for the marriage.

With time, the institution of marriage is losing its seriousness. People, thanks to the changing ways, are becoming more commitment phobic and they believe in a no-strings attached policy.
